Made to Win!

Ephesians 6:10-18 Common English Bible

In Christ, we are called to WIN this battle.  To do so, we must consecrate ourselves for Jesus and His mission.  Individually, the enemy will attempt to hinder the fullness in us, restricting the expression of this fullness carried to others.

Maybe you are emotionally strong.  Maybe you can handle a lot of pressure, work for long hours, day after day after day.  Maybe you are the one who is the emotional anchor in your family and everyone leans on you for support.

There are many kinds of strength.  But the most important one is the strength you need in the Lord.  True Christian strength is not of the body.  True Christian strength is of the spirit, measured in faithfulness, trust, and perseverance.  By Grace we live by Faith.

Our (true) struggle is against powers and principalities and the Lord wants you to be strong.

Be strong in the LORD!
“Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and his powerful strength.  Put on God’s armor so that you can make a stand against the tricks of the devil.”   Ephesians 6:10-11

Be aware of the spiritual battle!
“We aren’t fighting against human enemies but against rulers, authorities, forces of cosmic darkness, and spiritual powers of evil in the heavens.”   Ephesians 6:12

Be clear about your armor!
“Therefore, pick up the full armor of God so that you can stand your ground on the evil day and after you have done everything possible to still stand.  So stand with the belt of truth around your waist, justice as your breastplate, and put shoes on your feet so that you are ready to spread the good news of peace.  Above all, carry the shield of faith so that you can extinguish the flaming arrows of the evil one.  Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is God’s word.”   Ephesians 6:13-17

Be prayerful at all times!
“Offer prayers and petitions in the Spirit all the time.  Stay alert by hanging in there and praying for all believers.”   Ephesians 6:18

What’s Happening, February 8, 2019

SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICES  are regularly at 9am and 11am.  In our Winter Sermon Series “Made For More!” Paul, the Apostle of Jesus Christ, reminds the people of the Ephesus community to unite under the sovereignty of Jesus Christ!  Christ has reconciled the whole of creation to himself and to God.  Paul is writing from prison to the church in Ephesus that they have a responsibility because humanity was Made For More in this world.  God has invited humanity to participate in this transforming act of salvation through Jesus Christ.

People of all nations are united to Christ and to one another in the church, through the working of the Trinity.  Paul uses several word pictures to describe the church: body, temple, mystery, new creature, bride, and soldier.

Christians should lead holy lives that give honor to God.  Paul issues specific guidelines for right living because humanity was Made For More!

The Church is Made to Do More!

Ephesians 5:8-20 New Revised Standard Version

In order to appreciate God’s call on our lives, we must recognize and honor the gift within each of us.  God’s gift of the Holy Spirit brings us the divinity of God.  The Holy Spirit illuminates the light from the inside out so that the world will know us by our fruit.  We are the church of Jesus Christ!

Be light where there is darkness!
“For once you were darkness, but now in the Lord you are light.  Live as children of light—for the fruit of the light is found in all that is good and right and true.”   Ephesians 5:8-9

Be clear about pleasing God!
“Try to find out what is pleasing to the Lord.”   Ephesians 5:10

Be wise, not foolish!
“Be careful then how you live, not as unwise people but as wise, making the most of the time, because the days are evil.  So do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”   Ephesians 5:15-17

Be filled with thanksgiving!
“Do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit, as you sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, singing and making melody to the Lord in your hearts, giving thanks to God the Father at all times and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”   Ephesians 5:18-20

Hear the W.O.W., the Words of Wisdom,
“Be the Church at all times!”

Made to Accomplish More!

Ephesians 4:11-16 Common English Bible

Paul continues to inform the church in Ephesus of the value of being and doing more, but as an extension of the body of Christ.  As Paul sits in prison, he is writing to the church about unity, not for unity’s sake, but as a reflection and connection of God’s call on our lives.  We are to demonstrate this LOVE!  Why?  We are One Body!

We are all gifted for ministry!
“He gave some apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers.”   Ephesians 4:11

The gifts from Christ are for equipping!
“His purpose was to equip God’s people for the work of serving and building up the body of Christ”   Ephesians 4:12

Equipping over time leads to spiritual maturity!
“until we all reach the unity of faith and knowledge of God’s Son.  God’s goal is for us to become mature adults—to be fully grown, measured by the standard of the fullness of Christ.  As a result, we aren’t supposed to be infants any longer who can be tossed and blown around by every wind that comes from teaching with deceitful scheming and the tricks people play to deliberately mislead others.”   Ephesians 4:13-14

As we GROW in Christ, speak truth!
“Instead, by speaking the truth with love, let’s grow in every way into Christ, who is the head.  The whole body grows from him, as it is joined and held together by all the supporting ligaments.  The body makes itself grow in that it builds itself up with love as each one does its part.”   Ephesians 4:15-16

Hear the W.O.W., the Words of Wisdom,
“Live worthily in Christ!”

Made to Love More!

Ephesians 3:16-21, Common English Bible

As we accept and reflect on the love of God for us and in us, it overflows from us.  God’s love is the only sufficient motivation and ultimate response to the mission of loving more in our world today; it’s not possible otherwise.  To express the fullness of Jesus to others, we must have the fullness of Jesus in us.  Our world needs us to love more and Christ is counting on us!

“I have decided to stick to love…Hate is too great a burden to bear.”
Martin Luther King Jr.

No comparison or guilt.

No more hate.

Love starts with me.

Love overflows to others.

Words of Wisdom:
The Church is Made to Love More.
