Matthew 24:36-44, New Revised Standard Version

As we await the second coming of Christ, we will possess the tendency to lose our hope. Matthew’s gospel directs us to live in the in-between, the present age and the new age. God has delivered Jesus Christ to effect the change needed to get humanity into paradise.

The birth, life and resurrection are the initial phase of transformation, followed by the second coming.

Through a series of illustrations, Matthew suggests to the disciples “the way” to live in this world as they awaited the already.  Hope exists because…

Only God knows the future!
“But about that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”   Matthew 24:36

Witnessing is challenging, but necessary!
“For as the days of Noah were, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.”   Matthew 24:37

Jesus followers must be ready!
“Keep awake therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.”   Matthew 24:42
