McKENDREE MINISTRIES!
SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICES are regularly at 9am and 11am. (On October 29th we will have one combined worship service at 10am.) Our October Sermon Series is “Taking the Next Bold and Courageous Step!” With all of the decisions we make daily sometimes it is difficult to really know what the best decision is. Sometimes we delay and refuse to make a decision rather than spending time with God so that God can reveal our next step. Next steps are frightening but God’s next planned step is always faithful and involves a bold and courageous step into God’s preferred future.
ENCOUNTER MINISTRY The Encounter@MetroCenter meets Sunday afternoons at 12:30pm at the offices of the United Methodist Publishing House on 2222 Rosa L. Parks Blvd, Nashville, TN. The Encounter is not your average worship experience; it is an alternative service for those who feel “church” is not for them. The Encounter is disrupting the passive model of Christian gathering and building bridges of hope around tables where we encounter God in and with our neighbor and engage the neighborhood. For more information on our Encounter Ministry, you may contact Rick Quinn at mckendreerick@gmail.com.
230th CHURCH ANNIVERSARY! SUNDAY, OCTOBER 29! We will celebrate McKendree’s 230th birthday with a special service on October 29 at 10am. Dr. Ken Murray, our District Superintendent, will be our guest speaker. Our theme this year is “Still praying, proclaiming and praising the God of our faithfulness!” Plan now to attend – bring your family, neighbors, and friends. A reception and Silent Auction will follow the service.
NOTE: Life Groups, Bible Classes, Church Families – we are asking each group to prepare and donate a theme basket for our Silent Auction! All the proceeds from the Silent Auction will go toward our apportionments. Giving in apportionments is the way our local church (and all local UMC churches) support the national and conference ministries of the United Methodist Church as a whole.
BAPTISM If you are interested in being baptized, please contact Ruth in the church office at mckendreeinfo@gmail.com or 615-271-2600.
REFRESH! is our mid-week gathering. We meet in the first floor chapel each Wednesday, 12:00-12:30pm. Our worship includes prayers, music, a message and Holy Communion. Everyone is invited to attend.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY Our Wednesday night adult Bible study group is doing an in-depth study of the book of Philippians. Our scripture study for October 11 will be Philippians 3:12-4:1, Citizens of Heaven. Join us as we read, study and discuss the scripture each week. We meet every Wednesday at 6pm in Pastor Stephen’s office and everyone is welcome!
CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER Remember that we as a church are praying the Lord’s Prayer every day at Noon. Wherever you are at noon, we invite you to join us in prayer.

SPECIAL EVENT!
October 14, 9am-2:30pm
Andrew Price UMC
Interactive Gathering Fostering Conversation around God’s Love and Power
including Rick Quinn, contributing author
In the wake of recent tragic events, questions are often raised about where God is in the midst of horrible occurrences. On Saturday, October 14 from 9am-2:30pm Andrew Price Memorial UMC will host Wesleyan theologian, philosopher, and multi-disciplinary scholar, Thomas Jay Oord for a day-long seminar surrounding interactions with his book, The Uncontrolling Love of God which explores the biblical and theological models for understanding God’s interaction with the world. What does it mean to talk about God’s love and power? What if we understood God’s powerful and universal love as uncontrolling? What would that mean for our life as disciples?
The October 14 event will be an interactive gathering featuring Dr. Oord and several essay contributors who have essays in a new collection of conversations with this notion of God’s uncontrolling love including Rick Quinn of McKendree UMC. The event will feature a combination of conversations, Q&A, and breakout sessions exploring Christian responses to power and God’s love and what this means for issues of our social and political life together, how we understand suffering and evil with notions of God’s “will,” and the impact on our life of prayer and action to name a few.
This event on October 14 is the second stop of this tour in Nashville with a Friday event being held at Woodmont Christian Church. Andrew Price United Methodist Church is located at 2846 Lebanon Pike, Nashville, TN 37214. For more information on the event schedule and to register, see the Facebook page link: https://www.facebook.com/events/504134946589384/ or email Rick Quinn at mckendreerick@gmail.com.
