Luke 2:8-14, Common English Bible
Imagine being a pregnant woman with a 50/50 chance that your child or you would live? Place yourself in the fields, like shepherds, guarding your flock all day and night from wolves and thieves. How much peace does shepherding offer you? With the birth of Christ, there was everything, but peace!
Then there is an announcement of a “peaceable kingdom.” However, the announcement is not in the normal way or with the expected group of characters. This “good news” announcement is from the Lord’s angel.
We all need a peaceable place where we encounter God through Jesus! Because peace is contagious, God desires that we know that peace is possible and a sign of his kingdom.
What are the conditions for a peaceable kingdom announcement?
God uses unexpected people!
Nearby shepherds were living in the fields, guarding their sheep at night. The Lord’s angel stood before them, the Lord’s glory shone around them, and they were terrified. Luke 2:8-9
Fear tries to block out peace!
The angel said, “Don’t be afraid! Look! I bring good news to you—wonderful, joyous news for all people.” Luke 2:10
Christ is the evidence of peace!
“Your savior is born today in David’s city. He is Christ the Lord. This is a sign for you: you will find a newborn baby wrapped snugly and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great assembly of the heavenly forces was with the angel praising God. They said, “Glory to God in heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors.” Luke 2:11-14
