McKENDREE MINISTRIES!

SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICES  are regularly at 9am and 11am.  (On Fifth Sundays we have one combined worship service at 10am.)  Our Lenten sermon series is “Believe Like Jesus!”  This series calls us to walk daily the journey toward the cross with Jesus’s every step.  Every step that Jesus takes is a step in belief regardless of his circumstances.  The reality of belief is that it is one of the most powerful spiritual forces that believers possess.  Are we willing to follow Jesus Christ close enough to gain a deeper awareness and wider eyes to see and deeper ears to hear God speak?  Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life.  Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.  Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26   This Lenten season let’s be led by the spirit of God to Believe Like Jesus!  It’s possible to live as fully devoted believers in the body Christ!

WEAR RED!  We are asking everyone to wear red each Sunday this month.  “Standing in the Red Zone” is the theme of United Methodist Women’s 2018 Intercept Human Trafficking action.  This action seeks to provide love, mercy and justice for women, teens and children affected by sex trafficking.  We are taking this one step further and making this a Social Justice ministry of our entire church.  We have had over 40 people sign up to be a part of this missional initiative.  Our next steps involve connecting with End Slavery Tennessee.  They provide specialized case management and comprehensive aftercare for human trafficking survivors and tactically address the problem through advocacy, prevention and training front line professionals.  We will let you know of ways to be involved as we move further in this area of ministry.

BAPTISM   If you are interested in being baptized, please contact Ruth in the church office at mckendreeinfo@gmail.com.

ENCOUNTER MINISTRY  We invite you to join us Sunday afternoons at 12:30pm at the offices of the United Methodist Publishing House at 2222 Rosa L. Parks Blvd, for our Encounter service.  The Encounter is an alternative service for those who feel “church” is not for them.  We are disrupting the passive model of Christian gathering and building bridges of hope around tables where we encounter God in and with our neighbor and engage the neighborhood.  For more information on our Encounter Ministry, you may contact Rick Quinn at mckendreerick@gmail.com.

REFRESH! is our mid-week gathering.  We meet in the first floor chapel each Wednesday, 12:00-12:30pm.  Our worship includes prayers, music, a message and Holy Communion.  Everyone is invited to attend.

LENTEN BIBLE STUDY!  This year for Lent we are encouraging everyone to read through the Gospel of Mark.  Each week we will have reading suggestions and questions for you to think about.  No quizzes, no tests — you won’t be graded or asked to write an essay!  This is for your personal devotional time and spiritual growth.  Check our Home Page for the week’s reading assignment and study questions, or pick up a study sheet at the church.

OPPORTUNITY FOR SERVICE!

EASTER EGGS!   Our Easter Egg Hunt will be Sunday, March 18th at 11am on the CLC Rooftop Garden.  We have the eggs, but we need the candy!  Elizabeth Radecic, our Interim Children’s Director, will have empty Easter eggs in a table in the back of the church this Sunday.  Please consider taking home a bag of eggs to fill with candy.  The eggs need to be returned no later than Sunday, March 11th.  IMPORTANT NOTE:  NO PEANUTS!  We have some children with severe peanut allergies and want to be sure the candy is safe for them.  So, please, no peanuts or peanut butter candy (snickers, peanut M&M’s, etc. or anything with peanut butter).  We appreciate your help!

UMCOR Special Offering on March 11  It’s that time again!  Giving time!  Sunday March 11 is UMCOR SUNDAY (formerly known as “One Great Hour of Sharing”).  We give to help alleviate human suffering when disasters happen, in the U.S. or around the world.  United Methodist Committee on Relief is one of the first relief agencies to be there at a disaster and the last to leave.  Our gifts bring hope.  Praise God that in 2017 we gave over $780 for UMCOR Sunday, and later in the year we gave an additional $880 to UMCOR!  Let’s do it again!

The response of UMCOR isn’t something “they” do, it’s something “we” do.
