McKENDREE MINISTRIES!

SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICES  are regularly at 9am and 11am.  (On Fifth Sundays we have one combined worship service at 10am.)  Our June/July sermon series is “Talking with God!”  This series explores what to say when you don’t know how to pray.  Even more the series will give us the understanding and confidence to pray with ease and expectation.  Often we think about prayer as a well-crafted experience and we need just the right language for God to hear us.  What if prayer were just the opposite?  We are using the Lord’s Prayer as a guide for this eight part series.

ENCOUNTER MINISTRY  We invite you to join us Sunday afternoons at 12:30pm at the offices of the United Methodist Publishing House at 2222 Rosa L. Parks Blvd, for our Encounter service.  The Encounter is an alternative service for those who feel “church” is not for them.  We are disrupting the passive model of Christian gathering and building bridges of hope around tables where we encounter God in and with our neighbor and engage the neighborhood.  For more information on our Encounter Ministry, you may contact Rick Quinn at mckendreerick@gmail.com.

REFRESH! is our mid-week gathering.  We meet in the first floor chapel each Wednesday, 12:00-12:30pm.  Our worship includes prayers, music, a message and Holy Communion.  Everyone is invited to attend.

GETTING PLUGGED IN AT McKENDREE!  If you want to know more about McKendree Church – our history, our ministries, our future, or want to be more connected, join us this Sunday, June 10 at 10am in the Archives Room (#209, just across from the church office) following the 9am service. ANNUAL CONFERENCE  The Tennessee Annual Conference will be held next week, June 13-15 at Brentwood UMC.  Please be in prayer for our pastors and conference leaders.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL   Thanks to all those who participated and volunteered last week for our Vacation Bible School!  It was a fun day and everyone had a great time while learning!

SCHEDULING NOTE  Our Wednesday Night Bible Study and Chancel Choir are taking a break for the summer.  We will resume on Wednesday, August 1.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR SERVICE!

CREATION CARE MINISTRY  Your help is needed for a big recycling effort on Thursday, June 14 (11:45- 2:45) at Brentwood United Methodist Church!!!  Volunteers are needed to collect paper and plastic from a very large lunch at the Annual Conference of the Tennessee Conference of the United Methodist Church.  The lunch will be spread out over 16 rooms on three floors of the church.  This is not hard work, but lots of willing hands are needed.  Please contact Ruth Baggett in the church office if you can help with this effort at Annual Conference (mckendreeinfo@gmail.com or 615-271-2600).

CLOTHING CLOSET ORGANIZATION  We need one-time help!  We are in great need of persons to help organize clothing in our church clothes closet.  We have been gifted with a large donation of clothes!  Most of it has been sorted, but still needs to be folded and organized before we can re-open the closet to the public.

If you can assist one time for a morning, an afternoon, an evening, a couple of hours, whatever fits your schedule – we truly need help!   Please contact Ruth Baggett in the church office if you can donate some time (mckendreeinfo@gmail.com or 615-271-2600).

We also need volunteers for the closet when it is open to the public – to greet our guests, help them find clothing, and give information about McKendree Church.  Volunteers are needed for 2-hour times, either morning or afternoon, any day Monday-Friday, once a week, twice a month – whatever fits your schedule.  Please let Ruth know if you can volunteer.

CHURCH FAMILY NEWS

PRAYER WALL  Our prayer wall is located on the table at the back of the church.  You may take a tag (in a box on the table), write out your prayer need, and place it on a nail in the wall.  On Tuesdays and Thursdays the Lead Team and Prayer Team pray over all the concerns submitted.  We welcome people from our congregation to submit concerns and to read and pray over the concerns of our church body.  You may also share your concerns with the church staff by phone (615-271-2600) or email (mckendreeinfo@gmail.com).
