MINISTRY AT McKENDREE!

SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICES  are regularly at 9am and 11am.  (On Fifth Sundays we have one combined worship service at 10am.)  Our November sermon series is called “Questions God Asks Us!”  This is a reversal of our need to ask God questions.  We need to hear God ask us some very pertinent questions about life.  These questions move us to think deeply about our relationship with God.  How we answer God’s questions are rooted in our time spent with God discerning well.

REFRESH! is our mid-week gathering.  We meet in the first floor chapel each Wednesday, 12:00-12:30pm.  Our worship includes prayers, hymns, a message and Holy Communion.  Everyone is invited to attend.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY  Our Adult Bible Study meets at 6pm in the Pastor’s office.  We are in a study on World Religions (Jehovah’s Witness, Mormonism, Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam) in the light of Christianity.  Our focus this week is Essential Christian Doctrines.  Everyone is welcome to join us!

NEW LIFE GROUP STARTS THIS SUNDAY, Bi-Lingual — Spanish and English   A new McKendree Life Group begins this Sunday.  We are Spanglish, those who speak either Spanish or English, or both.  We embrace our multi-cultural nature, seeking to know and grow in our relationship to God while supporting one another, deepening our understanding of each other via learning each other’s language and culture.  We intend to be totally bilingual so that all may feel comfortable, whichever their primary language may be.  We’ll study God’s Word, pray for each other and share from our hearts what God is doing in our lives.

The leaders of the group will be Raciel and Esther Gutierrez and Christian Saldano.  We’ll meet each Sunday beginning this week at Panera Bread at the corner of 5th and Commerce following the 9am worship service.  We’ll meet for one hour, approximately 10:15-11:15am. Our opening theme will be A Life of Giving Thanks.  We invite you to come!

LIFE GROUPS!  Do you belong to a Life Group?   If you’re not involved in a McKendree Church Life Group, you’re missing out!  Life Groups offer a time to form friendships, have fellowship and study the Word of God together.  We have a number of different Life Groups, which meet at various time and places during the week.  We encourage everyone to be in a Life Group!   If you’d like more information about our Life Groups, contact Ruth Baggett in the church office (615-271-2600 or mckendreeinfo@gmail.com.

NOVEMBER MISSION FOCUSES:

Operation Christmas Child   The Christmas Child shoeboxes are on the tables at the front and back of the church.  Some nations have restrictions on food coming into their countries, so DO NOT INCLUDE ANY FOOD/CANDY/CHOCOLATE in your box, also NO LIQUID ITEMS.  Suggestions for gifts include small toys, school supplies, hygiene items, clothing and accessories.  Shoeboxes, packing guides and labels are available on the tables in the front and back of the church.   Boxes must be turned in SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 20th!

Angel Tree Gifts  We have received the list of students from Rose Park Middle School (our Pencil Partner) and their requested items.  Many these requests are for clothing.  If you can help by filling one wish from these students, it would be a great blessing!  You may pick up your Angel Tree name on the table in the front of the church.  These gifts need to be returned to the church by Sunday, December 4th.

CHARGE CONFERENCE  Our Annual Charge Conference will be at 3pm on Sunday, November 20th, here at McKendree Church.  Charge Conference is a meeting with the District Superintendent (or representative) and is a time where the Administrative Council presents our church budget, our Staff Parish Team recommends candidates for the ministry and our Ministry Teams give reports on what we’ve done this year, and plans for next year.  It’s a time to review where we are and plan ahead for the future.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

DAY CARE CARNIVAL, Friday, November 11
4:30-6:30 pm, Christian Life Center gym

Our McKendree Day Care Fall Festival is tomorrow! We’ll have games for the children – a three-legged race, bean bag toss, a baby crawling race, a toddler track race, a preschool “Tyke Trike” race and more.  Lots of music and food!  New this year will be a Disco Light Room!  Win a cake in the cake walk by standing on the lucky number!

You may park in the McKendree Garage, and enter the gym on the 3rd level.  Tickets are $5 for children, $10 for adults, and $35 for a family.  Dinner is included!  All the monies raised go to the McKendree Day Care Endowment Fund, which helps provide financial aid scholarships to Day Care families.  Come for the fun and fellowship! 

CASTING CALL FOR 2017 UMC NATIONAL ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN
Calling All Kids Ages 5-12!
Thursday, November 17 from 11 am- 7 pm
at United Methodist Communications

United Methodist Communications is launching a new national advertising campaign for 2017, titled “LIVE CHILDLIKE.”  Children can help us rediscover the meaning of Christmas, Easter and all the values we hold dear like grace, forgiveness, kindness, gratitude, acceptance and love.  If you would like to be part of this exciting new campaign, we are looking for children, ages 5–12, who would be comfortable talking on camera.

Casting will take place on Thursday, November 17, 2016 from 11 am to 7 pm, at United Methodist Communications (810 12th Avenue South, Nashville).  If you and your child are unable to attend the casting session, you may also submit a video clip of your child.

Filming for the campaign will take place at United Methodist Communications on December 1, 2 and 3 from 8 am to 6 pm.  If your child is chosen, you will only need to be available for one time slot during these dates.
