What’s Happening: November 23, 2016

MINISTRY AT McKENDREE!

SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICES  are regularly at 9am and 11am.  (On Fifth Sundays we have one combined worship service at 10am.)  November 27 will be the first Sunday of our Advent sermon series, “Awaiting the Already!”  In this series, we look into the future of the coming of Christ again.  Although we know that Christ has already been born, even before His birth, Christ was among us.

ENCOUNTER@METROCENTER  Each Sunday at 12:30pm, McKendree Church has an alternative worship service for those who feel “church” isn’t for them.  This service meets at the United Methodist Publishing House, 2222 Rosa Parks Blvd.  The Encounter@MetroCenter seeks to be a multi-racial, multi-cultural faith movement for the purpose of building bridges of hope so that people come to know, love, serve and share Jesus Christ with others.  We seek to make disciples of Christ for the transformation of the world by engaging in vital conversations about gospel and reconciliation, compassionate relationships with all people, and life-giving action that moves us beyond our comfort and complacency into the mission field of North Nashville and beyond.

CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PAGEANT AND CAROL SING-ALONG  Our children will present the Christmas story on Sunday, December 11th at 10:15, on the front lawn.  We encourage all our adults to be present and enjoy the work of the children, and especially the Children’s Team.

REFRESH! is our mid-week gathering.  We meet in the first floor chapel each Wednesday, 12:00-12:30pm.  Our worship includes prayers, hymns, a message and Holy Communion.  Everyone is invited to attend.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY  Our Adult Bible Study meets at 6pm in the Pastor’s office.  This week we will begin a short Advent study.  Everyone is welcome to join us!

BAPTISMS  If you are interested in being baptized, please contact Ruth in the church office at 615-271-2600 or mckendreeinfo@gmail.com.

NEW BI-LINGUAL LIFE GROUP — Our newest Life Group is our Spanglish Life Group, for those who speak either Spanish or English, or both.  We embrace our multi-cultural nature, seeking to know and grow in our relationship to God while supporting one another, deepening our understanding of each other via learning each other’s language and culture.  We intend to be totally bilingual so that all may feel comfortable, whichever their primary language may be.  We’ll study God’s Word, pray for each other and share from our hearts what God is doing in our lives.

The leaders of the group are Raciel and Esther Gutierrez and Christian Saldano.  We are meeting each Sunday Panera Bread at the corner of 5th and Commerce following the 9am worship service.  We meet for one hour, approximately 10:15-11:15am.  Our opening theme is “A Life of Giving Thanks.”  We invite you to come!

URGENT MISSION NEED!  ANGEL TREE GIFTS  We have received the list of students from Rose Park Middle School (our Pencil Partner) and their requested items.  We still have 50 names and requests not taken.  Almost all of these requests are for clothing.  Please take a request and let’s make Christmas brighter for these children!  You may pick up your Angel Tree name on the table in the front of the church.  These gifts need to be returned to the church by Sunday, December 4th.

DECEMBER MISSION FOCUS:  Christmas Eve Meal  Starting December 4 we’ll be soliciting food items for our Christmas Eve Meal for the homeless of downtown Nashville.  We’re preparing for 300 guests.  We are also requesting gift bags with basic winter supplies for being on the streets.  Each bag should contain these 6 items:

a pair of gloves           a pair of socks                                     a hat(stocking cap)
