Why Life Groups?
We believe that the Christian life is never a solitary journey. We are called to life together in God and with neighbor.
At McKendree UMC we believe that Life Groups are an essential means for making disciples of Christ for the transformation of the world. Life Groups are places where people learn how to interpret their entire lives through the lens of the gospel, build a vocabulary for giving voice to their experience of God, and grow in faith in Christ. 1
What are life groups?
At McKendree United Methodist Church you will hear a lot about life groups. What are they and why are we so insistent on their importance?
Simply put, a life group is a small group (ideally 8-10 people) committed to meet together for a season (a minimum of twice a month for a semester) for the primary purpose of walking together as a group on the Christian journey of growing deeper in our faith in Christ and engaging in missional activity as a group. Life groups are organized around some version of the primary question “How is our life in God? Where have we felt or experienced God’s presence in the last week? How is our relationship with God and neighbor?”
What is MDNA?
Each Life Group focuses on discipleship though what we refer to as MDNA.
Each Life Group participant is expected to be:
- Missional – connect with people in the community
- Discipling – studying the word of God together with a diverse group of people
- Nurturing – offer support and care to each other daily
- And reflecting a high and consistent level of Accountability – meaning whatever we promise to God and each other we honor it with our words, thoughts and actions – that is our promise
How do I get involved?
