MINISTRY AT McKENDREE!

SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICES  are regularly at 9am and 11am.  (On January 29th we will have one combined worship service at 10am.)  Our January sermon series is entitled “Draw Circles Around God’s Promises!”  Every year we start with a set of goals we believe would make us better than the year before.  However distractions and our lack of discipline prevent us from achieving our well-intended goals.

This year let’s seek God’s direction first.   This year, pray to God to give you big dreams that only He can help you accomplish!

ENCOUNTER@METROCENTER  Each Sunday at 12:30pm, McKendree Church has an alternative worship service for those who feel “church” isn’t for them.  This service meets at the United Methodist Publishing House, 2222 Rosa Parks Blvd. in Metro Center.  Everyone is welcome to attend.  For more information on our Encounter Ministries, you may contact Rick Quinn at mckendreerick@gmail.com.

REFRESH! is our mid-week gathering.  We meet in the first floor chapel each Wednesday, 12:00-12:30pm.  This short time of worship includes prayers, hymns, a message and Holy Communion.  Everyone is invited to attend.

JANUARY 29

JANUARY 29 IS FIFTH SUNDAY!  ONE WORSHIP SERVICE, 10AM!  On January 29th our 9am and 11am services will join together at 10am for a combined service of worship and praise!

SCOUT APPRECIATION BREAKFAST, JANUARY 29!  Our Boy Scout Troop 219 wants to say thanks and show their appreciation for the support of the McKendree Church family.  They are doing this by inviting you to BREAKFAST AT 9am on SUNDAY, JANUARY 29.  This is NOT a fundraiser; there is no cost to you.  Join us in Fellowship Hall!  Everyone is invited!

NEW CHILDREN’S MINISTRY INTERIM DIRECTOR  The Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) is elated to announce that Alison Weakley is officially the Children’s Ministry Interim Director effective immediately.  We are humbled and blessed to have Alison willingly use her gifts in service to our children.  Alison will be in this interim position while SPRC interviews candidates for the permanent position.

SPECIAL FILM SCREENING  Last Monday, McKendree UMC and the Encounter communities partnered with other area churches to host a special screening and discussion of the documentary 13th, based on the 13th Amendment to the Constitution. This film deals with the legacy of racism in the U.S. and its impact on mass incarceration.  It was amazing to see such a large and diverse group set aside over 4 hours of their day to face difficult truths, vulnerably engage in difficult conversations, and commit to one another to continue to embody the gospel in the struggle for justice.  We exceeded our goal of 120 people and had 9 churches represented.  Thanks be to God!

LIFE GROUPS  We invite and encourage everyone to be a part of a Life Group!  We have Life Groups for men, women, mixed adults.  We also have a bilingual (Spanish/English) Life Group.  Some groups meet at McKendree Church, others meet in coffee shops or homes in the Nashville area.  Contact Rick Quinn (mckendreerick@gmail.com) for more information on our McKendree Life Groups!

WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY  Our Adult Bible Study meets at 6pm in the Pastor’s office.  We are currently in a study of Christianity, Cults and Religions by Paul Carden.   The study on January 25th will be on Eastern Spirituality (Hinduism, Buddhism, and the New Age) and in February we will study the teachings of Islam.  Everyone is welcome to join us!
