McKENDREE MINISTRIES!
SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICES are regularly at 9am and 11am. (This Sunday we will have one combined worship service at 10am.) Our September Sermon Series is “Dare to Live!” It is grounded in the life of Job. In this series, we are journeying through Job’s life, family and friends and seeking to better understand how he is able to emerge from the tragedy of what life throws at him. As followers of Jesus, how do we respond to the tragedies and missteps in our daily lives? Even in the midst of uncertainty, God will be with us and Dare us to live!
BAPTISMS If you are interested in being baptized, please contact Ruth in the church office at 615-271-2600 or mckendreeinfo@gmail.com.
REFRESH! is our mid-week gathering. We meet in the first floor chapel each Wednesday, 12:00-12:30pm. Our worship includes prayers, music, a message and Holy Communion. Everyone is invited to attend.
CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER Remember that we as a church are praying the Lord’s Prayer every day at Noon. Wherever you are at noon, we invite you to join us in prayer.
COFFEE AND CONVERSATION If you want to know more about McKendree Church – our history, and our ministries, or want to be more connected, join us September 24 at 10am in the Archives Room (#209, just across from the church office) following the 9am service. You’ll have an opportunity to learn more about the ministry and vision of McKendree Church, meet our leaders and take a tour of the church, and find a place to connect! If you’d like to join us, please RSVP to Ruth Baggett at 615-271-2600 or mckendreeinfo@gmail.com.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY Our Wednesday night adult Bible study group is doing an in-depth study of the book of Philippians. Our scripture study for September 20 will be Philippians 2:12-16, Working It Out. We have interesting discussions on the scripture each week. We meet each Wednesday at 6pm in Pastor Stephen’s office and we welcome everyone to join with us for this study series.

CHRISTMAS SHOE BOXES/Missions Focus for September The McKendree Evangelism/Missions /Social Justice team is working with Mt. Carmel UMC in Clarksville for our Project Christmas Shoe Box. This year our Christmas Shoe boxes will go through UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) to Latin America to the mission workers who serve in those countries. We have more boxes available. The boxes and instruction sheets are on the tables in the front and back entryways. NOTE: Shipping cost for each box is $5.00. You can write a check to McKendree Church and tape it in an envelope to your box. We will deposit the checks and make one single check for the shipping.
Christmas Boxes must be brought back to the church by Sunday, September 24, as we will be sending them on their way that afternoon.
Bless you for participating in this ministry! — E/M/SJ Team
UMCOR FLOOD BUCKETS FOR HURRICANE HARVEY A Big “Thank You” for the team effort in getting flood buckets together, packed up in the church bus and delivered to Calvary UMC. We were able to send 16 buckets with cleaning supplies for the people impacted by Hurricane Harvey. UMCOR has not yet asked for supplies for Hurricane Irma; we will let you know when/if we receive a request.
This is the report from the Tennessee Conference Office. We did well!
— Debbie McCormick, Evangelism/Missions/Social Justice Team
Outstanding Response to Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma
On August 28, churches were asked to make financial contributions to UMCOR for disaster response and to help “fill the truck!” The Nashville Area planned to send one 18-wheeler filled with cleaning buckets to the UMCOR warehouse for Hurricane Harvey survivors.
Congregations in the Tennessee and Memphis Conferences were quick to respond. Our wonderful connection of churches through conferences and districts was put into motion.
And many buckets were filled. Tennessee Conference churches prepared 2,850 flood buckets in just two weeks! Hundreds of health kits were put together as well. Additional requested supplies also were donated including box fans, wheelbarrows, shovels, rakes, school kits, and more. The Memphis Conference received a similar outstanding response.
On the final drop-off date, September 11, there were enough buckets and additional requested supplies to fill THREE 18-wheeler semi-trucks – one out of Jackson, one out of Nashville, and one out of Murfreesboro!

PRAYER WALL Our prayer wall is located on the table at the back of the church. You may take a tag (in a box on the table), write out your prayer need, and place it on a nail in the wall. On Tuesdays and Thursdays the Lead Team and Prayer Team pray over all the concerns submitted. We welcome people from our congregation to submit concerns and to read and pray over the concerns of our church body.
