Greetings Holy, Healthy and Happy People of God,
As I write this eNote to our faithful and devoted community of radical and contextually conscious followers of Jesus Christ, I am thankful for our congregation’s continued good works.
This week I attended the New Room Conference in Franklin, Tennessee. Thank goodness the New Room movement is not a new denomination or a renewal movement within United Methodism. It is not affiliated with any denomination, although it has many associations. The New Room Movement is all about resourcing the Christian Church, particularly the global tribe of the Wesleyan tradition through social and scriptural holiness throughout the land.
What thrilled me most was their consistent language of “equipping” people, especially through small groups modeled after Wesleyan Class and Band meetings. Class meetings were designed for transformation and not information. And Band meetings move us from being fans of Jesus to being intimate and abiding followers of Jesus. Paul writes to the church in Ephesus, “His purpose was to equip God’s people for the work of serving and building up the body of Christ until we all reach the unity of faith and knowledge of God’s Son. God’s goal is for us to become mature adults—to be fully grown, measured by the standard of the fullness of Christ.” Ephesians 4:12-13
An amazing statistic from the Wesleyan movement was revealed at the New Room Conference. Over 50% of the conversions of faith happened within Class and Band meetings and not at Sunday morning worship. Join the movement of Life Groups at McKendree where we are equipping people to be bold and courageous followers of Jesus Christ who share their faith frequently.
