McKENDREE MINISTRIES!
SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICES are regularly at 9am and 11am. (On Fifth Sundays we have one combined worship service at 10am.) Over the next two weeks, we will be in a new series called “Unspeakable Joy!” Joy is a deliberate act of obedience in response to who Christ is and what he has done. We can reclaim the joy of the LORD! If joy is demanded of us, let the people of God live a life of Unspeakable Joy!
CELEBRATION FOR McKENDREE! For the first time in over two decades, McKendree Church paid our apportionments at 100% for 2017! Apportionments are the main way individual, local churches support the ministries of the United Methodist Church. Together, through our connected congregations, we accomplish what no single church, district or annual conference ever could hope to do alone. In this way, each individual, each family, each congregation gives a fair share for the church’s work. We combine our prayers, presence, gifts and service to make a significant difference in the lives of God’s people. The general funds include: World Service Fund (missions), Black College Fund, Episcopal Fund, Ministerial Education Fund, Africa University Fund and other UM ministries.
McKendree’s apportionment total for 2017 was $64,791 and we paid in full! We celebrate that we are fully able to support our United Methodist ministries!
WEAR RED! We are asking everyone to wear red each Sunday this month. “Standing in the Red Zone” is the theme of United Methodist Women’s 2018 Intercept Human Trafficking action. This action seeks to provide love, mercy and justice for women, teens and children affected by sex trafficking. We are taking this one step further and making this a Social Justice ministry of our entire church. Last Sunday over 40 people signed up to be a part of this missional initiative. Our next steps involve connecting with End Slavery Tennessee. They provide specialized case management and comprehensive aftercare for human trafficking survivors and tactically addresses the problem through advocacy, prevention and training front line professionals. We will let you of ways to be involved as we move further in this area of ministry.
BAPTISM If you are interested in being baptized, please contact Ruth in the church office at mckendreeinfo@gmail.com or 615-271-2600.
ENCOUNTER MINISTRY We invite you to join us this Sunday afternoon at 12:30pm at the offices of the United Methodist Publishing House at 2222 Rosa L. Parks Blvd, for our Encounter service. The Encounter is an alternative service for those who feel “church” is not for them. We are disrupting the passive model of Christian gathering and building bridges of hope around tables where we encounter God in and with our neighbor and engage the neighborhood. For more information on our Encounter Ministry, you may contact Rick Quinn at mckendreerick@gmail.com.
REFRESH! is our mid-week gathering. We meet in the first floor chapel each Wednesday, 12:00-12:30pm. Our worship includes prayers, music, a message and Holy Communion. Everyone is invited to attend.
ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICES February 14 is Ash Wednesday. We will have two services that day.
