McKENDREE MINISTRIES!

SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICES  are regularly at 9am and 11am.  (On Fifth Sundays we have one combined worship service at 10am.)  Our August sermon series is “Moments with Moses!”   In his lifetime, Moses had several defining moments with God and with the Israelites.  Our lives are defined by moments so let’s live for the moments with God and each other.

BAPTISM  If you are interested in being baptized, please contact Ruth Baggett in the church office at mckendreeinfo@gmail.com or 615-271-2600.

ENCOUNTER MINISTRY    Our Encounter Ministry is an alternative service for those who feel “church” is not for them.  We meet at 12:30pm at the offices of the United Methodist Publish House, at 2222 Rosa L. Parks Blvd.  We are meeting (for the summer) on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month.  We invite you to join us and bring a neighbor, family or friends!  For more information on our Encounter Ministry, you may contact Rick Quinn at mckendreerick@gmail.com.

REFRESH! is our mid-week gathering.  We meet in the first floor chapel each Wednesday, 12:00-12:30pm.  Our worship includes prayers, music, a message and Holy Communion.  Everyone is invited to attend.

KITCHEN PROGRESS REPORT!

Removing old stoveOur kitchen renovation is moving along!  Here’s what’s been done so far—

All the old equipment is gone!  The old duct work, fans and hood, the old stove, dishwasher, convection oven and icemaker.  Just getting that old stove out of the building was a real challenge!

The wooden shelving in dish room has been removed, old soap dispensers taken down and all the holes in the walls repaired.  All the flooring has been taken up, and the floor scraped down.  The walls and ceiling have been sanded.  Painting has begun.

The equipment that will go back in the kitchen has been given a thorough cleaning and is currently being stored in the fellowship hall.

The new duct work, fans and hood were delivered, and they are in the fellowship hall. They are beautiful.

All the new equipment has been ordered – a 6-burner gas range, convection oven, freezer, dishwasher and ice machine!

Metro Water Works met with us concerning drain lines and grease traps.  We have 3 floor drains that are open; the 2 that don’t flow can be capped off, which means we do not have to break up the floor to install new drains.  This was fabulous news.  Also we do not have to install a grease trap at this time.  (It can be installed later with no problem.)

Thanks so much to everyone who came on our work days and gave their time and energy!  A special ‘Thank you” to Steve and Penny Hooper, who have been at the church every day making sure that everything is done!  This renovation would not be happening without them.

We’re looking forward to our new space and how God will minister to others through it.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY REPORT!!

CAROLING ON THE LAWN   We had a lot of fun singing Christmas carols out on the front lawn last Saturday!  Some people did a doubletake as we were outside with our Christmas hats, reindeer antlers, etc.  Maybe they thought the year had gone by faster than they realized, or maybe they thought the heat had gotten to us!  But it was a great opportunity to meet people and celebrate Christmas at any time of the year!  Thanks to all who came and helped!

CHRISTMAS IN JULY  Thank you to everyone who brought spiral notebooks,  composition notebooks and pencils for Buena Vista Elementary School.  It’s not too late — you can still bring them to the church office or to morning worship in the next two weeks!  Gift wrapping not necessary!  Supplies are still coming in, so we don’t have a total count yet.  We’ll give you the total of our gifts soon!

WORSHIP WITHOUT WALLS  Thank you to everyone who participated in our Worship Without Walls projects last Sunday.  A group of people went to Buena Vista Elementary School and worked at setting up their Behavior Store, and their clothing room.   Two groups of people worked here at McKendree Church – counting and organizing the Christmas In July school supplies, and also sorting, folding and organizing clothes for McKendree’s Clothes Closet.  Your work was a blessing and very much appreciated!
