SUNDAY IS PALM SUNDAY!
2 SPECIAL EVENTS!

SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICES  are regularly at 9am and 11am.  (On Fifth Sundays we have one combined worship service at 10am.)  Our Lenten sermon series is “Restored: Finding Redemption in Our Mess!”

How many times do we find ourselves as humans in a royal mess?  Do we ever wonder if there is any hope of redemption?  The good news is simply this, whenever God is involved there is always an opportunity for redemption and ultimately restoration.  What in your life needs some restoring?  During this Lenten Season, let’s journey with Jesus to the cross and discover how and where God is redeeming our mess.

This is the beginning of Holy Week!
— Our children will be participating in both the 9am and 11am services.

— The Stations of the Cross will be in the Narthex.  Please take time to go through the stations and reflect on Christ’s sacrifice for us.

Easter Egg Hunt, 11:30am on the rooftop of the Christian Life Center.   We’re praying the weather will be clear, but in case of rain, the egg hunt will be indoors.

Church Picnic/Potluck Dinner, 12:30pm in Fellowship Hall.  The Children’s Team is providing fried chicken, drinks and paper products.  McKendree Church has some great cooks, so please fix your special side dishes and desserts.  Bring enough to share!

Everyone is invited to come and spend this special day with us!

REFRESH! is our mid-week gathering.  We meet in the first floor chapel each Wednesday, 12:00-12:30pm.  Our worship includes prayers, music, a message and Holy Communion.  Everyone is invited to attend.

BAPTISMS  If you are interested in being baptized, please contact Ruth Baggett in the church office at mckendreeinfo@gmail.com.

GROUP MINISTRIES!

WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY  We are studying the book, He Chose the Nails, by Max Lucado.  Our lesson for April 12 is Chapter 6, “I Will Let You Choose.”  We meet in Pastor Stephen’s office at 6pm, and everyone is welcome to join us!

LIFE GROUPS  We have a new Adult Life Group that meets every Sunday at 10am in Room 109 (first floor, across from Fellowship Hall).  This Life Group is for men and women – if you’re not in a Life Group, this would give you the opportunity to be in as the group is starting.  Life Groups are a great way to be connected!  We have a number of Life Groups – if you’d like to get involved, or want more information, contact Rick Quinn at mckendreerick@gmail.com.

OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES!

HIKE2HEAL WALK TO BENEFIT RAISE THE ROOF ACADEMY IN UGANDA, APRIL 22
The 5th Annual Hike2Heal Walk will be on Saturday, April 22, at Edwin Warner Park.  This is a 5K walk/run/hike, with proceeds to benefit healthcare for the students at Raise the Roof Academy in Uganda.  All ages and abilities are able to participate.  In addition to the walk, there will be a dog show, kid’s zone, music and prizes.  Registration fee is $35.

Raise the Roof Academy now has over 700 children!  The school is located in an area without reliable medical care.  The nearest clinic is a 3 hour walk.  The most affected people in the villages are women, children, and the elderly.  The most prevalent illnesses include maternal related care, malaria, respiratory infections, skin infections, HIV/AIDS and more.  This 5K benefit will allow healthcare to be provided in the form of immunizations, antimalarial treatment, and preventative treatment for the students and staff of the school.  For more information contact 615-686-9085, www.raisetheroofacademy.org or info@raisetheroofacademy.org.  To register for the walk, go to https://runsignup.com/Race/TN/Nashville/Hike2Heal.

DOWNTOWN HOME TOUR, APRIL 23  The Nashville Downtown Partnership will be hosting the Downtown Home Tour on Sunday April 23, from 1-6pm.  As people walk down the street, we hand out cookies and a flyer with information about the church and talk with them.  We also invite them to come inside and see the church.  We need volunteers who will be outside to give out cookies and flyers and talk to people.  We also need volunteers inside the narthex who can tell people a little about the church and show them the sanctuary.  The tour is from 1-6 pm, but most of the foot traffic will be over by 4pm.  If you can help either inside or outside, from 1-4pm, please contact Ruth Baggett in the church office, mckendreeinfo@gmail.com.

We also need cookies, lots of cookies!  Homemade or store-bought, either is fine.  They DO NOT NEED TO BE PUT IN ZIPLOCK BAGS.  They can be brought to the church office ahead of time or on April 23.  This event is an important part of outreach – we want people who move downtown to know they are welcome at McKendree Church!

MEN’S CLOTHING!  We are in great need of men’s clothing for the clothes closet – pants, shirts, t-shirts and shoes.  All sizes!  You can bring your donations on Sunday and place them in the chest just inside the back door.  Thank you for your generosity!

CREATION CARE MINISTRY  On Saturday, May 6th, McKendree Church will co-sponsor in Creation Care Recycling Day at West End UMC, from 9am-12pm.  This will be an opportunity for:

  • Document shredding – bring paper and photos in an untied garbage bag or open box
  • Electronic recycling – computers, monitors, DVD players, electronics, printers, televisions and more. There is a $10 charge for CRT monitors and a $25 charge for all televisions.
  • Batteries – dry-cell batteries, disposable and rechargeable and others
  • Medications – dispose of over-the-counter and prescription drugs, pills, liquids, lotions, inhalers
  • Donations for Goodwill – clothing, household items, furniture, books, working appliances

To see a full list of items and services available, go to www.westendumc.org/events/creation-care-recycling-day.

As a co-sponsor, we need volunteers to help at West End UMC on May 6.  Volunteers will direct cars through the parking lot, help unload items from people’s cars/trucks, and if time allows, sign people up to receive more information about the District Creation Care Ministry.  We need to fill 4 slots from 8:30-12:30.  This could be 4 people who work all 4 hours, or 8 people who could work in 2-hour shifts.  If you have questions or can help on May 6, please contact Andrew Skipper at 615-290-8467 or mckendreeandrew@gmail.com.  Thanks for your help!
