McKENDREE MINISTRIES!

SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICES  are regularly at 9am and 11am.  (On Fifth Sundays we have one combined worship service at 10am.)  Our August Sermon Series is “Sheroes of the Faith!”  We will explore how God called the women throughout the Bible to participate in His(tory).  Women are called to be in ministry and the negative labels, despairing comments, and glass-ceiling limitations are deeply rooted in Patriarchal structures and patterns.  How do we join with God to reimagine women in ministry for a hopeful and redemptive future?  Join us for a time to hear how God liberates the Sheroes of the faith, then and now!

BAPTISM  If you are interested in being baptized, please contact Ruth in the church office at 615-271-2600 or mckendreeinfo@gmail.com.

REFRESH! is our mid-week gathering.  We meet in the first floor chapel each Wednesday, 12:00-12:30pm.  Our worship includes prayers, music, a message and Holy Communion.  Everyone is invited to attend.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY   Promotion Sunday will be this Sunday, August 6.  Children going into Kindergarten will receive an engraved Bible.  Children who have graduated 3rd grade will be receiving a special gift also.  This week we are starting our new 4th-5th grade Sunday School class.  Children’s church will be for children age 3 through those in 3rd grade.  The 4th-5th graders will stay in the church service and have their Sunday School class after the service.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY   Our adult Bible study took a break in July, but we have started back with a detailed study of the book of Philippians.  Our adult Bible study took a break in July, but we have started back with a detailed study of the book of Philippians.  The Apostle Paul wrote to the Christians in Philippi while in prison in Rome, yet the word “rejoice” is in this letter 11 times, “joy” is used 6 times, and “peace” and “grace” are here 3 times each.  Paul didn’t allow his situation or circumstances to control his relationship with Christ!

Our Wednesday night adult Bible study group is beginning an in-depth study of this letter to the Philippians.  We are using the Philippians study book from the Life Change series, published by NavPress.  This will be a 12-week study.  Everyone is invited to come and study and learn with us!  We meet each Wednesday at 6pm in Pastor Stephen’s office.  Please contact Ruth Baggett if you have any questions — 615-271-2600 or mckendreeinfo@gmail.com.

CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER  Remember that we as a church are praying the Lord’s Prayer every day at Noon.  Wherever you are at noon, we invite you to join us in prayer.

McKENDREE IN SERVICE!

CHRISTMAS IN JULY  Last Sunday we celebrated Christmas in July – a time when we bring gifts of school supplies for a local school; this year our designated school was Buena Vista Elementary School.  We topped last year’s giving!  Our 2016 total was :
175 composition books      235 spiral note books        17 packs of notebook paper
38 folders                             1500 pencils
plus hand calculators, crayons, index cards, pens, sharpies, erasers, Kleenex, pencil pouches/boxes, stapler and staples, and glue

Our total this year is :
259 composition books      246 spiral note books        33 packs of notebook paper
42 folders                              2000 pencils                        4 hand calculators
28 boxes of crayons            35 glue sticks                       5 3-ring binders
plus color pencils, erasers, pencil sharpeners, bottles of glue, pencil boxes, scissors, and washable markers.  For the teachers, we had 94 pens, plus dry erase markers, hand sanitizers, highlighters, index cards, post-it notes, tote bags, and wet wipes.

You did a great job, McKendree Church!!  The teachers and staff at Buena Vista send their sincere thanks.  These supplies will make starting school much easier.  Thank you so much for your spirit of giving and generosity!

Also last Sunday, we participated in our WORSHIP WITHOUT WALLS ministry project at Buena Vista Elementary.  Thirteen people went to the school following our morning worship service, and worked on the school grounds – weeding the garden, tossing overripe fruits and vegetables, and picking up trash.  A lot was accomplished and now the schoolyard gives a welcome look to the incoming students, teachers and staff.  A big “Thank You” to everyone who helped!  Your work was a gift of service to the Lord!

CPR TRAINING  Are you interested in learning how to save a life?  One of our church members will be offering CPR classes here at the church.  The schedule will be determined according to the number of people we have, and what days/times will work best.  The cost of the class will be $30 per person.  Please contact Ruth Baggett (271-2600, mckendreeinfo@gmail.com) if you’re interested

PRAYER WALL  Our prayer wall is located on the table at the back of the church.  You may take a tag (in a box on the table), write out your prayer need, and place it on a nail in the wall.  On Tuesdays and Thursdays the Lead Team and Prayer Team pray over all the concerns submitted.  We welcome people from our congregation to submit concerns and to read and pray over the concerns of our church body.

Please remember the students, parents, teachers and staff of our schools as they begin this school year.
