McKENDREE MINISTRIES!

SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICES  are regularly at 9am and 11am.  (On Fifth Sundays we have one combined worship service at 10am.)  Our August Sermon Series is “Women of the Faith!”  We are exploring how God called the women throughout the Bible to participate in His(tory).  Women are called to be in ministry and the negative labels, despairing comments, and glass-ceiling limitations are deeply rooted in Patriarchal structures and patterns.  How do we join with God to reimagine women in ministry for a hopeful and redemptive future?  Join us for a time to hear how God liberates the Women of the Faith, then and now!

BAPTISM   If you are interested in being baptized, please contact Ruth in the church office at mckendreeinfo@gmail.com or 615-271-2600.

REFRESH! is our mid-week gathering.  We meet in the first floor chapel each Wednesday, 12:00-12:30pm.  Our worship includes prayers, music, a message and Holy Communion.  Everyone is invited to attend.

CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER  Remember that we as a church are praying the Lord’s Prayer every day at Noon.  Wherever you are at noon, we invite you to join us in prayer.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR SERVICE!

VOLUNTEERING AT BUENA VISTA ELEMENTARY/MENTORS AND READING CLINIC
McKendree UMC is working to deepen and broaden a partnership with Buena Vista Enhanced Option Elementary School located in North Nashville on 1531 9th Avenue North.  Buena Vista Elementary is designated a priority school in the state of Tennessee which means that it falls in the bottom 5% of schools throughout the state in student performance.  Nearly 100% of the student body are from families who live at or below the poverty line with an average family income for the school of $9,000/year.  Only 20% of the student body is reading at grade level and there is a 40% mobility rate (4 out of 10 students who start the year won’t finish the complete school year at Buena Vista) because the school serves two homeless shelters.  There is a great need for mentors and reading clinic volunteers who could dedicate an hour a week to making a difference in the lives of some amazing children.  Please consider volunteering in this great ministry!  For more information, please contact Rick Quinn at mckendreerick@gmail.com.

CHRISTMAS SHOE BOXES/Missions Focus for September   The McKendree Evangelism/Missions/Social Justice team is working with Mt. Carmel UMC in Clarksville for our Project Christmas Shoe Box. This year our Christmas Shoe boxes will go through UMCOR to Latin America to the mission workers who serve in those countries.

The boxes need to be returned to McKendree Church by September 24th.

Personal hygiene items – lotion, shampoo, comb and brush, small hand mirror, toothbrush and medium toothpaste, soap and washcloth

The boxes and instruction sheets will be available this Sunday.  NOTE:  Shipping cost for each box is $5.00.  You can write a check to McKendree Church and tape it in an envelope to your box.  We will deposit the checks and make one single check for the shipping.

Bless you for participating in this ministry!                                                      — E/M/SJ Team

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN LEARNING HOW TO SAVE A LIFE?  Kathy Von Nieda would like to offer CPR classes here at the church.  The schedule will be determined according to the number of people we have, and what days/times will work best.  The cost of the class will be $30 per person, to cover the cost of materials.  Please contact Ruth Baggett (615-271-2600 or mckendreeinfo@gmail.com) if you’re interested.
