McKENDREE MINISTRIES!
SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICES are regularly at 9am and 11am. (Fifth Sundays we have one combined worship service at 10am.) Our April Sermon Series is called “Be Anxious for Nothing: Stay Calm!” Most of us at some point in our lives become overly anxious. Anxiety takes up residence in our hearts. Anxiety can be deadly if it goes unchecked. As Americans the cost of anxiety is over 300 billion dollars in medical bills and lost productivity in the workplace annually. Paul, in his letter to the church in Philippi, offers not only good advice, but also a way to overcome anxiety by staying calm. Life is worth living without anxiety and is possible because Jesus Christ is no longer in the tomb!
BAPTISM If you are interested in being baptized, please contact Ruth in the church office at mckendreeinfo@gmail.com.
ENCOUNTER MINISTRY We invite you to join us Sunday afternoons at 12:30pm at the offices of the United Methodist Publishing House at 2222 Rosa L. Parks Blvd, for our Encounter service. The Encounter is an alternative service for those who feel “church” is not for them. We are disrupting the passive model of Christian gathering and building bridges of hope around tables where we encounter God in and with our neighbor and engage the neighborhood. For more information on our Encounter Ministry, you may contact Rick Quinn at mckendreerick@gmail.com.
REFRESH! is our mid-week gathering. We meet in the first floor chapel each Wednesday, 12:00-12:30pm. Our worship includes prayers, music, a message and Holy Communion. Everyone is invited to attend.

McKENDREE GROUP MINISTRIES!
WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY We are in a study of the book The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis. This is a classic work of religious satire, written from the perspective of Screwtape, one of Satan’s highly placed assistants, as he mentors his nephew Wormwood in the ways of demonhood. We are finding this book to be humorous and enlightening and it pushes us to think from a different perspective. On May 2, we will discuss Letters 17-18, on Gluttony and Love and Marriage. We welcome everyone to join with us for this study series. We meet each Wednesday at 6pm in Pastor Stephen’s office.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR SERVICE!
CLOTHING CLOSET ORGANIZATION We are in great need of person to help organize clothing in our church clothes closet. We have been gifted with a large donation of clothes, but they must be sorted and organized before we can re-open the closet to the public. If you can assist for a morning, an afternoon, a couple of hours, whatever fits your schedule – we truly need help! Please contact Ruth Baggett in the church office if you can donate some time (mckendreeinfo@gmail.com or 615-271-2600).
CREATION CARE MINISTRY On Saturday, May 12th, McKendree Church will co-sponsor in Creation Care Recycling Day at West End UMC, from 9am-12pm. This will be an opportunity for:
Document shredding – bring paper and photos in an untied garbage bag or open box
Electronic recycling – computers, monitors, DVD players, electronics, printers, televisions and more. There is a $10 charge for CRT monitors and a $25 charge for all televisions.
Batteries – dry-cell batteries, disposable and rechargeable and others
Medications – dispose of over-the-counter and prescription drugs, pills, liquids, inhalers
Donations for Goodwill – clothing, household items, furniture, books, working appliances
As a co-sponsor, we need volunteers to help at West End UMC on May 12. Volunteers will direct cars through the parking lot and help unload items from people’s cars/trucks. We need to fill 3 slots from 8:30-12:15. You can volunteer for all 4 hours, or for 2-hour shifts (8:30-10:40/10:30-12:15). If you have questions or can help on May 12, please contact Karasheila Jackson at krochellenoskcaj@gmail.com. Thanks for your help!
