What’s Happening, July 5, 2018

SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICES  are regularly at 9am and 11am.  (On Fifth Sundays we have one combined worship service at 10am.)  Our June/July sermon series is “Talking with God!”  This series explores what to say when you don’t know how to pray.  Even more the series gives us the understanding and confidence to pray with ease and expectation.  Often we think about prayer as a well-crafted experience and we need just the right language for God to hear us.  What if prayer were just the opposite?  We are using the Lord’s Prayer as a guide for this two-month series.

BAPTISM  If you are interested in being baptized, please contact Ruth Baggett in the church office at mckendreeinfo@gmail.com or 615-271-2600.

ENCOUNTER MINISTRY    Our Encounter Ministry is an alternative service for those who feel “church” is not for them.  We meet at 12:30pm at the offices of the United Methodist Publish House, at 2222 Rosa L. Parks Blvd.  We are meeting (for the summer) on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month.  We invite you to join us and bring a neighbor, family or friends!  For more information on our Encounter Ministry, you may contact Rick Quinn at mckendreerick@gmail.com.

REFRESH! is our mid-week gathering.  We meet in the first floor chapel each Wednesday, 12:00-12:30pm.  Our worship includes prayers, music, a message and Holy Communion.  Everyone is invited to attend.

UMW NEWS  The Mission U will be held next week at St. Marks UMC in Murfreesboro.  Day classes are July 12-13, and the night classes are July 11-13.  If you are interested in attending either session, please contact the church office at mckendreeinfo@gmail.com or 615-271-2600.

CHANCEL CHOIR AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY  Our Wednesday Night Bible Study and Chancel Choir are taking a break for the summer.  We will resume on Wednesday, August 1.

CLOTHING CLOSET ORGANIZATION  Thank you to everyone who has helped sort and organize clothing in our clothes closet!  Your help has been greatly appreciated!

We are in need of two kinds of help —

1)  Sorting and organizing.  Donations come in every week, and need to be sorted and put on the shelves.  This work is best done when the closet is NOT open for people to come in.  This can be done morning or afternoon, Monday-Friday, for 1-2 hours.  You can come on a one-time basis, or come once a week, twice a month, whatever fits with your own personal schedule.

2)  Greeters for the closet during open hours.  Duties include smiling, greeting our guests, helping them find clothing, and giving basic information about McKendree Church.  Someone from the church staff is always available to help.  Greeters are needed for 2-hour time periods, morning or afternoon, Monday-Friday.  It is helpful to have greeters on a consistent schedule — for example, every Tuesday morning, or Wednesday afternoons twice a month — whatever would work for your personal schedule.

If you can assist with either of these tasks, please contact Ruth Baggett in the church office (mckendreeinfo@gmail.com or 615-271-2600).  I will be happy to show you the closet and talk with you about our ministry opportunity here.

We will be collecting spiral notebooks, composition notebooks and pencils for Buena Vista Elementary School.

(It’s summer now, but our mid-year Christmas celebration
will be here before you know it!)

SALAMA URBAN MINISTRIES presents ANNIE JR., an original Broadway Production based on “Little Orphan Annie.”   Salama will present their musical at the Belmont University Troutt Theater (2100 Belmont Blvd.) on July 13-14, at 7pm, and July 15 at 3pm.  Tickets are $10 for adults.  For more information you may contact www.salamaserves.org.

RENOVATION NEWS!  After several years of planning, dreaming and fund-raising, we are getting a totally new church kitchen!  We apologize in advance for the dust, debris and confusion, but it will be worth it!  We hope to have the work completed by the end of summer.  We also have a Day Care Renovation Project underway, converting a first floor conference room to a classroom, and changing the second floor multi-purpose room to the Day Care Teachers’ Room.  It’s an exciting time to be at McKendree!

PRAYER WALL  Our prayer wall is located on the table at the back of the church.  You may take a tag (in a box on the table), write out your prayer need, and place it on a nail in the wall.  On Tuesdays and Thursdays the Lead Team and Prayer Team pray over all the concerns submitted.  We welcome people from our congregation to submit concerns and to read and pray over the concerns of our church body.  You may also share your concerns with the church staff by phone (615-271-2600) or email (mckendreeinfo@gmail.com).

McKENDREE GIVING  Your financial gifts and donations are always appreciated.  Consider adding McKendree UMC to your bill pay account.  Our address is: 523 Church Street, Nashville, TN 37219.  Online giving is available at www.McKendreeNashville.com/give/financialgifts/.   You may also text your giving!  Just text the amount you would like to give to 615-375-4049.

CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER  Remember that we as a church are praying the Lord’s Prayer every day at Noon.  Wherever you are at noon, we invite you to join us in prayer.

As always, remember God’s will for us is good, we must do the rest!
Pastor Stephen
